艾尔蒙地计划对Valley Boulevard和Main Street进行大规模街道改造,增加自行车道并使Main Street的Valley Mall步行化。但商家担心门店停车位可能被取消。该项目的设计旨在提高公共交通、骑行和步行的便利性,但也引发了关于这些建设为谁服务的问题:是为了当前的居民健康和福利,还是为了推动重建并可能导致城市更新和居民流离失所?此外,主街目前正面临许多挑战,太多的变化可能会导致家庭拥有的社区服务零售店被连锁店所替代。
